Education is a universal right of every human in this world. Education is the major challenge faced by African students. Several natural and human resources are available in Africa, but education is still not necessary.

The education rate is below 50% in Africa. United Nations stats suggest that almost sixty percent of young girls and boys are not going to school. The essential standard by which any nation’s progress, establishment, and advancement are measured is its level of education.

African children are facing these educational challenges for the last 25 years. About 20-30 percent of girls are not attending school and 32 percent of girls left school after their adolescent age. There is no proper higher education system for students.

Africa’s persistent poverty is mostly caused by a lack of education and accessibility to high-quality education. Africa’s people are also facing poor management and a lack of administration to run educational institutes.

African government is not able to fulfill the requirements of the increased population of the country, which is the major cause of the lack of educational institutes and staff members. Their institutes also have no qualified and trained teachers for students in schools and colleges.

A list of Unique Challenges faced by African Child in Education

Lack of education results in several negative effects on people’s lives and the environment like increased crime rates, unemployment, poor public health, endless poverty, badly affecting the economy, and social violations. Here is a detailed list of advanced challenges faced by children in Africa in the education sector.

    • Extreme Poverty
    • Poor governance
    • Gender inequality
    • Political turbulence
    • African state’s inability to meet the needs of a growing population
    • Lack of trained teachers/teacher-to-student ratio
    • Inadequate funding
    • Neglecting the fundamental principles of philosophy

African nations have a plethora of assets that are utilized by the developed countries in their development but Africans are still living in extreme poverty and lack access to schooling. Presently, one-third of Africans are living in poverty.

People in Africa are mostly illiterate due to a lack of education and financial crisis. Parents are not able to meet the requirements of students’ educational expenses. Without education, Africa cannot fight this cultural and financial crisis.

People of this nation want that their children get an education and later serve their own families and county but due to this endless poverty and unemployment, they cannot bear the academic expense. NGOs and governmental organizations should help and support these families and take responsibility for the educational expenses of children.

    Poor Governance

Africa is an underdeveloped country. Government policies and administration have made no strict policies related to children’s education. Education is the main pillar of success for African child.

Almost about ninety- million youngsters are living in Africa and only twenty-eight percent of teenagers are registered in higher secondary institutes. The Ministry of education of Africa must take action and develop policies regarding education.

    Gender Inequality

The Unique Challenges Faced by African Child in Education

The burning issue among the African state is gender disparities. This issue is worsened by many factors in society like early marriages. Females are as important to a country’s economy as males. But in African culture girls’ education is not necessary as boys’ education because they think that girls cannot contribute to and support the community.

They overemphasized the boys’ education and empowerment and ignore the girls. These cultural values must be changed to overcome these challenges.

    Political Turbulence

African child is continuously facing political challenges that are affecting the educational system. Political violence has spread throughout Africa. Terrorism activities and internal conflicts of state are major problems that are affecting public health, education, and govt. administrative agencies. The government and terrorists are both destroying educational institutes during their fights.

African State’s Inability to Meet the Needs of a Growing Population

As the population of Africa is continuously increasing and it is a developing country. Due to the increased population, a lot of issues have been raised such as a lack of resources, and funds, poor health management, HIV/AIDS, hunger, food insecurity, quality of education, and poor economic growth.

African people are now facing all these challenges and there are no hopes for the betterment of circumstances to them. The state should develop some policies and programs for population control and educate the people.

Lack of the Trained teachers/teacher-to-student Ratio

The teacher-to-student ratio is relatively good but there is a severe shortage of teachers due to low-salary packages. The instructors of schools will determine the standard of learning. If the educational system is not well developed and the need for qualified teachers is highly raised.

Africa must hire some professionals for learning platforms that educate children and motivate parents to send their children to schools and universities.

    Inadequate funding

Inadequate funds from govt. and non-government bodies are the main cause of the poor educational system. The fundamental causes of the key educational issues in Africa are inadequate education and restricted accessibility to learning opportunities.

NGOs and other supporting agencies are funding the state to assist in fighting against the financial crisis and unconstitutional changes. But still, the education department is not getting enough funds and attention in the country.

Neglecting the Fundamental Principles of Philosophy

African children are lacking education, reading, communication, logical thinking, numerical, and writing skills due to the lack of educational institutes and trainers. Africa’s government is ignoring the key principles of intellectuals which are the basis of learning.
